Anxiety & Strategies to Overcome Fear Day 28 Self-Love Detox Challenge

Today I want to talk about a subject that is very close to my heart and I feel is very apropos, for the self-love part of this 30 day challenge. We're discussing fear & anxiety and the impact, reality, ways to cope, & how and why we need to.
Overcoming anxiety and the fears that quickly rise like a wave of terror, threatening to drown you is important; for the very simple reason that you are in horrible pain. Much of which is hidden and causes you to suffer in silence.

I used to struggle feeling like this all the time before I got the help I needed:

It took a long time to seek out that help because I didn't understand what was happening to me, I was isolating, retreating, so I could protect myself, and avoid freaking out in public. It was terrifying to be exposed, alone, and unsure how bad an episode might be; so I kept to myself and started to venture outside less and less.
What is the cause of Panic Attacks?:

This became so bad that I began to experience debilitating panic and very real physical symptoms, the moment I even tried to put my hand on the doorknob.
Outside became impossible, inside felt safe, but I was not cocooning myself in security.
I was allowing myself to become trapped by a multitude of fears, real & imagined.
It was not until I was diagnosed with PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) and informed of all the symptom, as well as treatment plans, that I finally stopped feeling crazy. BTW, it took a round of 6 tries before I finally found the right people and help. It was a seriously infuriating and maze like road.

Anxiety and depression still carry tremendous stigma in our society, and I believe it stems from three places.
1-We are still learning so much about the brain and what we know and understand now, is still pretty new in our human history. In early world wars, soldiers would be suffering from PTSD but this term had yet to be coined and the effects and symptoms were not understood. It was classified as neurasthenia, a type of fragility that was viewed by some as a weak and flimsy excuse to get out of war service.
This is the dictionaries definition:
Neurasthenia: an ill-defined medical condition characterized by lassitude, fatigue, headache, and irritability, associated chiefly with emotional disturbance.

This is now understood to be something completely different, valid, real, and is taken seriously; as it should be.

2-It makes us uncomfortable because we realize that we are all vulnerable to the realities of anxiety, depression, as well as the after effects of trauma, and we do not like it. Vulnerable=weak and that is perceived as bad, instead of as an opportunity for growth and reaching max potential for a better quality of life.

3-We are not socialized/taught about these issues in school or at home, and the ignorance is detrimental. We prefer to brush it off, make light of it, and not bother to learn more so we can be effectively helpful and supportive. Often the wrong things are said, which make the person saying them feel better because they can extricate themselves from what puts them at ill-ease, but it further damages the individual who really needs compassion, kindness, and support.

Asking for help is crucial and one of the most difficult steps; facing rejection, ridicule, and disdain are further damaging and can lead to people seeking other and more dangerous ways of coping.
Such as: self-medicating, addiction, abusing others, self-harm, and even suicide.
If people are telling you that your anxiety is all in your head, that you should do better and stop complaining, why aren't you stronger, why isn't your faith stronger, why don't you just get over it, it's not that bad, you're dumping your problems on others, or you are just downright melodramatic; look at the ways that anxiety impacts the body:

I am placing this post as part of the detox challenge because when we make changes to our diet, juice fast, get out junk, and commit to a healthier lifestyle, several things have been known to happen.
Some people become really emotional, have crying jags, fuzzy head, experience anxiety/depression, feel overwhelmed by their emotions, and find it difficult to cope. Old wounds and unhealed places in us surface and need our attention.
Do not ignore this and if you cannot go it alone, I am asking you to please seek help; and if you cannot find it right away, keep searching and fighting your way to it until you find it.
Do not give up, you matter!
That brings us to another point, the people in our lives.
Sometimes you are changing and people around you will not like it, they will try to minimize what you are going through, they may try to sabotage your attempts to incorporate positive change, you may have to move away from toxic people and situations because they no longer serve you and are causing more harm than good. Be warned, when you begin to demand change, because you are able to recognize what is harming you, people who benefit from your silence will not like it. You need to recognize that they like the status quo because they get something out of it, that does not mean they have your best interests at heart. I am not saying every person is horrible, I am saying trust what you know, and people's actions really do speak louder than their words.

I liked this:
But sometimes your light attracts moths, and your warmth attracts parasites. Protect your space and energy. Warsan Shire. Introvert:
When I first started reaching out for help I got some whopper comments, horrible responses, and some rather painful rejections from people I believed in.
I came to realize that I was on a journey they could not be a part of, that there are times in this life when humans lack the capacity to be whom/what you need, and that God is the best one to comfort and love me. It was not easy, sometimes it can still be difficult, even lonely, but it is worth it.

I eliminated those that were harming, detracting from, hurting, refusing my means of communication, and dismissive of my very real pain.
I eventually found people who cared, wanted better for me, were and are still patient and loving to this very day. I give God thanks, it has been a 20 year road. I am still on it but I stumble much less, have more good days than bad, and reach out to friend's and God when it all becomes too much.

I learned that I have to love and place myself as a priority, I have to honour my truth, and that there are ways to find some semblance of peace. It is not a quick fix but it is possible.
I want to mention that I used natural alternatives to modern medicine as I do not like taking drugs. I used skullcap in tincture form aka liquid form to ease my anxiety and I used Gaba, an amino acid to sleep better and help support my brain. These were recommended by a naturopath along with elimination of all toxic body and house care products, as well as no sugar, no caffeine or allergen triggers, and loads of rest, sunshine, walks, and kindness. To this day I use skullcap when I have an episode or too much stress is triggering anxiety attacks, I go with it and do not ignore or fight what my body is telling me.
I highly recommend you seek out naturopaths with experience in this domain and if you choose to take these natural products, do not mix them, do not over dose-follow the instructions, and be super gentle with yourself. Surround yourself with people who love and accept you, as well as respecting who you are, imperfections and all!

Worry, Day 27 of the Self-Love Detox Challenge

Good morning sweetpea's,

Today we continue our self-love journey & this post is focusing on something that robs us of far too much joy and peace.
We can take better care of ourselves by honing in on a few fear off shoots; like worry.

Worry is a big hurdle for many of us, myself included. It creeps in, takes up residence in uninvited places, and slowly takes over too many aspects of our lives. If there is one message God could get across to you today, as you read this, is that YOU DO NOT need to worry.
How is that you're asking?
Easier said than done right?
Sure, but my worries, concerns, fears, are very real and valid; aren't they?
Are they?
No, wait.
Hear that last question.
Are all of those things you are worrying about real or valid?
There are three sides to that coin, (I know coins are 2 sided, just go with it) before you answer, let us explore.
Firstly, is the fear real and can what we imagine really come to being?
A study done by psychologist's found that 85% of the things we spend time fretting/worrying about, NEVER occur.
Read that last part again please.
They also found that 15% of the things people worried or feared, when they experienced them they were not as bad as they thought they would be; and they also said they learned valuable lessons from the experiences.

This brings us to the second side of the worry/fear coin.
In all the time you spent worrying & giving time to your fear(s), how productive and problem solving was it?
Did you accomplish what you hoped?
Did the outcome change or happen at all? And if it did come to pass, were you left still standing and full of blessed life?
When I think back on all the wasted hours, lost days, health, and energy because I have allowed worry to rob me; I feel very embarrassed, somewhat foolish, and awash in righteous indignation.
In those moments I gave the enemy complete access and control, which allowed him to play and wreak havoc on far too many aspects of my life. The repercussions have had a very real impact.

This brings me to the third side of that coin. Why am I, why are we, not trusting God?

I know that we all have concerns, that life is hard and can be great at knocking our confidence and hope for a loop. We have been guilty at one time or another of giving way too much of our personal power away to fear and we suffer in painful and depleting ways for it.

I am going to let a bit of my inner geek shine for a moment but it is to illustrate a good point. Many years ago I watched an episode on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, where everybody was freaking out and all of their fears were coming to life, coming after them, and wreaking havoc on their lives. At the end they finally find the big bad fear demon, only to discover that he is all of a few inches tall, throwing his mini arms up and repeating, "Fear me! Fear me!"
Buffy then replies, "Yeah, yeah." and squishes him under her shoe.
It is fantasy made for entertainment purposes, however, it illustrates a good point.
How many times do we allow a small fear to blow up into something huge and then it takes over?
Facing fear(s) is a process, and I have my own personal battles, so I am by no means judging you for your fears. I am here addressing something that I hope will bring about a different way of viewing and responding to fear; one day you might even be able to overcome it and jump it clear as any hurdle can and should be. I always liked that Baz Luhrmann song that says, know that worrying is as effective as chewing bubble gum to solve an algebraic equation.
Puts it in perspective doesn't it?
I am leaving you with some positive God love and a prayer to aid us all on our quest to be less fearful, trusting God more, and to feel empowered. Abba bless you!

Oil Pulling & Day 25 of the Self-Love Detox Challenge

Have you heard of Oil Pulling? It is one of the most effective ways to start detoxing your bodies in a completely natural manner. For more information: http://www.jeremiahboehner.com/oil-pulling-the-weird-ritual-that-has-amazing-results/:
Morning lovelies,

This is going to be a very short post about oil pulling, something I really believe in and have passed along to quite a few people. I learned about oil pulling a couple of years ago when I kept having dental issues that my dentist could not stop from happening. She was making loads off of fixing the problems but could not prevent them; and I became really frustrated with the process of degradation to my gums without preventative measures being presented. As per my usual, I sought out alternatives. Lo' & behold, the life changing magic of oil pulling found it's way into my life and I am so glad it did. If you have never heard of this, I truly think you need to start. It will change your life, cut your dental bills, regenerate gums/teeth in ways you would not believe, and it is painless! Read the infographics I came across from Pinterest and other blogs, to learn more. I also included a link to a Youtube video in case you were not sure of this easy procedure.
Happy teeth and gums are a beautiful thing. Enjoy!

I use organic regular (not toasted sesame oil, as I was told this is the best from the ayurvedic sorce that I first learned from. Do what works for you.

Day 14 Self-Love Detox Challenge Prebiotics & Probiotics

Probiotics vs. Prebiotics - The difference between the two, their functions, probiotic foods and prebiotic foods.:
http://guthealthproject.com/probiotics-vs-prebiotics-the-important-role-each-play-in-your-health/

Hello Lovelies,

I needed to do this blog post with loads of info graphics, links and ideas about all important prebiotics & probiotics, which are huge contributors to weight loss, gut and overall health. It is very true and I learned about these special beneficial bacteria when I first worked in a health food store many years ago. When I first started working there a new product came out on the market that was the first of it's kind, a liquid probiotic yogurt that was as powerful as taking 100 yogurts in one.

It was brushed aside by many in the early days but eventually hospitals sought out this product when a serious bacteria was so resistant to antibiotics that the medical establishment was freaking out and not sure what to do. It has been clinically proven to work, is safe and effective. I adore this product, you can get it in capsule form but I find it most effective in liquid for and fast acting. It is something I give to friend's, family, colleagues, and client's;as it has many applications and is easy to take. It works for constipation, diarrhea, nausea, stomach upset, after a colonic irrigation, after medications, to combat food poisoning, stomach flu, digestive illnesses, and to facilitate healing and weight loss. Yes, weight loss. Studies are being done which are showing that gut health is the single most important determining factor to weight-loss. It is not enough to exercise like crazy, eat healthy, eliminate junk, and sleep enough. Without healthy food as prebiotics to set the stage and feed probiotics, you are not going to be as successful at losing and keeping off the weight.

To get back to the hospital bacteria dilemma, it was a particularly virulent strain of bacteria that they were dealing with and it was spreading, dangerously fast. Medical teams discovered the benefits of probiotics, managed to stop the spread and save lives thanks to probiotics; and the rest of the world started to take notice.
Almost 20 years later and everything has added probiotics to it but that does not mean it's going to work or help, why is that? Well, firstly, many probiotic items are heavily sugar-laden, this feeds BAD bacteria. Secondly, it is not always guaranteed that what is written on the outside of a pill bottle is what is inside it. Don't believe me? Research it and check out Market Place & some research they did with independent labs, shockingly bad. That is why I stick to the tried, tested, proven, and true products that Bio-K provides.
Now there is a plethora of flavours, base products that are dairy or soy or rice based cultures, to help people with numerous sensitivities or allergies.
                        Image result for bio k
There is even a children's one which is fantastic and tasty, it is a great way to get good bacteria back in you or your loved one's gut after illness, food poisoning, or antibiotic/strong medication use.

This is their website if you want to find out about this product. To learn more about what probiotics and prebiotics are, continue reading. I placed excerpts in this post that will help you learn all you need to know.

Prebiotics are substances that induce the growth or activity of microorganisms (e.g., bacteria and fungi) that contribute to the well-being of their host. The most common example is in the gastrointestinal tract, where prebiotics can alter the composition of organisms in the gut microbiome. However, in principle it is a more general term that can refer to other areas of the body as well. For example, certain hand moisturizers have been proposed to act like prebiotics to improve the activity or composition of skin microbiota.
In diet, prebiotics are typically non-digestible, fiber compounds that pass undigested through the upper part of the gastrointestinal tract and stimulate the growth or activity of advantageous bacteria that colonize the large bowel by acting as substrate for them. They were first identified and named by Marcel Roberfroid in 1995. As a functional food component, prebiotics, like probiotics, are conceptually intermediate between foods and drugs. Depending on the jurisdiction, they typically receive an intermediate level of regulatory scrutiny, in particular of the health claims made concerning them.

Prebiotic Fibre

About Prebiotics

Prebiotics are a very specific type of food. While many of the food ingredients we consume are digested immediately, prebiotics are a healthy non-digestible food ingredient. Futhermore, prebiotics are heat resistant, which keep them intact during the baking process and allow them to be incorporated into every day food choices. By consuming a non-digestible ingredient, it allows for growth of bio-cultures by reaching the intestine unaffected by the digestion process. This can provide good digestive health. The positive effects prebiotics have by reaching the intestine in an unaltered form is known as the prebiotic effect.

Prebiotic Effect

A prebiotic effect occurs when there is an increase in the activity of healthy bacteria in the human intestine. The prebiotics stimulate the growth of healthy bacteria such as bifidobacteria and lactobacilli in the gut and increase resistance to invading pathogens. This effect is induced by consuming functional foods that contain prebiotics. These foods induces metabolic activity, leading to health improvements. Healthy bacteria in the intestine can combat unwanted bacteria, providing a number of health benefits.

Difference Between Prebiotics and Probiotics

Prebiotics are a dietary fibre that trigger the growth of bacteria having favourable effects on the intestinal flora. Probiotics, however, are live micro-organisms contained in the food we eat. They remain intact throughout the digestive process, and deliver healthy bacteria directly to the large intestine. Since probiotics do not stimulate metabolic activity they provide a different set of benefits than prebiotics. Both sets of benefits are valuable for our health wellness, and can act symbiotically to provide numerous health benefits. In fact, the benefits of consuming both prebiotics and probiotics are so strong that synbiotic products (products in which both a probiotic and a prebiotic are combined) are being developed as functional foods.

Source of Prebiotics

The most common type of prebiotic is from the soluble dietary fibre inulin. Inulin is common in many plants containing fructan. Furthermore, many of these plants are frequently eaten as vegetables - asparagus, garlic, leek, onion, artichoke and are an excellent source of inulin. However, as the need for functional foods rises, prebiotics are being added to many every day food choices such as cereals, biscuits, breads, table spreads, drinks, and yoghurts.

Adding Prebiotics to Every Day Food Choices

If all consumers met their dietary requirements, and ate 5-8 servings of fruits and vegetables per day, then their dietary fibre needs would be met. However, the vast majority of the population do not meet these requirements by consuming fruits and vegetables alone. Functional foods increase consumer choice by adding prebiotics to every day food items. By continuing to eat and drink common foods, but choosing functional alternatives (i.e. Bread containing prebiotics) dietary requirements can be met, without significant changes to food preferences.

I hope this was informative, this is a big part of the reason I insist that people take digestive enzymes & probiotics as their only supplement when detoxing. In the early stages, they are really the most important ways to help re-establish gut health, along with proper diet, rest, exercise, and self-care.
As a final addition, for those of you who have suffered from severe illness, have had a poor quality diet for a long time, have been on serious medication(s), have severe allergies/intolerances/digestive issues, are just beginning a gluten-free protocol, you need probitocs and enzymes but I would also highly recommend getting some bone broth in your diet to help heal and give serious nutrition to your gut. I have a whole post on bone broth & it's benefits linked here:

Day 11 Self-Love Detox Challenge & Hugging Benefits

Bonjour,

We have hit day 11 and we are looking at the fantastic benefits of hugging!  This is important as hugging is a great part of love and care. We often overlook the simple things in life like sleep, kindness, gentleness, and touch. All are important parts of feeling good, being in an emotionally and physically healthy state. Words, thoughts, and touch have a huge impact on wellness and should not be overlooked. Science is proving that humans need healthy touch to be well and hugging is a great way to get there. Hugging releases the feel good drug Oxytocin, this is the drug that is released in our bodies when we are in love and in like and when we lose that feeling; either through rejection or circumstance, this drug leaves and leads to the very real physical feeling of sadness and heartbreak. We experience a withdrawal of this feel good drug and our system suffers for it. Hugging is a great way to get some of that feel good drug back and it's all natural baby! You only need to hug someone for 60 seconds to feel the effects for several hours.
Oxytocin is a biological precursor to love: a timeless sentiment that has been referenced since cultivation of the written word. From religious texts:

It doesn't matter if you are in a relationship, single, happy, sad, only have a fur baby that is yours or maybe on loan. Hugs are good for you and you can get them from loved one's or wherever they show up from, just make sure they are in kindness.

                          Super sweet!!!:

The best things about hugs is that they don't cost anything!

         Oxytocin:

And this next one is from me to you:

Have a wonderful day & hug someone special to you-but be respectful & ask first.

Cheat Days and It's Day 9 of The 30 Day Self-Love Detox Challenge

Ba ha ha ha ha!
Yup, that's the perfect size spoon for eating a "little" something.
Hey Y'all!
Today is cheat meal day info. my sweetpea's & I know how exciting it can be!
Thursday night you may have been all like:

Hehheh, it's funny and fun but there's some seriousness too.

Some people do not even like the term "cheat".

I use it because I don't view it with negativity, I feel like it's a moment of sanctioned naughtiness that I can embrace wholeheartedly; within reason of course.

The No's Listed on Day 1 still apply except for small amounts of dark chocolate and small amounts of coffee. Why dark chocolate? Well see for yourself:

I am going to be responsible & include a link to an earlier post I did on the dangers of chocolate, particularly raw cacao that so many tout as a very healthy superfood. (It also comes with an awesome raw dessert recipe!)

Chocolate has some good points though, which is why it's great as a rare treat. I do not recommend it if you are suffering from any eczema or gluten related issues, as chocolate can be a cross reactive issue. See more on an older post I did about gluten difficulties in this series.

Coffee is tough for people to give up, so I allow for it on cheat days; just keep your intake to max 2 cups for the whole day and the no refined sugars or dairy rules still apply. Also, if you're having eczema or gluten probs coffee is not okay for you to have either. ((Hugs for your loss))

If you know that the food cheat is more temptation than you can bear, by all means don't do it and just repeat a food day you liked the most and reward yourself in a different way. We all know our limits and what seems harmless for one may be too much for another. I don't want you side tracked from this 30 days of positive changes; do what works best for you.

If you're heading out to eat, I found this handy info-graphic for different things to choose from depending on the type of food you're going for. Remember to stick to day 1 No's List. No red meat, no dairy, no sugar, no gluten, no serious junk, etc. The list below will actually be great to use for when you are off this detox but I include it to help with some ideas. Like for pizza, get a gluten-free crust topped with bruschetta and chicken or arugula and no cheese.
If you have a hankering for sweet treats, aim for Paleo or Raw Vegan. There is plenty there to satisfy a craving, I prefer to make my own special something. Just remember to have fun, no guilt, and MODERATION!
